Australian composer Christina Bowden has been passionate about music and composition since the young age of 12. Eager to establish a career, Christina completed 8 grades of AMEB Classical Piano, performed in Creative Generation (2018) and SHEP (2017 and 2018), was accepted into the Young Conservatorium program for composition and attended the Conservatorium’s Tertiary Preparation program 2018.
In 2021, she graduated from a Bachelor of Music in Composition at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University. In 2022, Christina moved to Sydney to study a Masters of Arts Screen: Music at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
Christina loves collaborating with other composers and musicians (having made lasting connections and friendships doing just that) and can often be found picking her colleague’s brains in an effort to learn all she can about writing for various types of instruments. The last few years of study have developed and honed her skills as a composer, particularly under the expert tutelage of Dr Gerard Brophy.
Throughout her degree, Christina has been requested to compose pieces for Queensland Youth Orchestras, student films, ballet companies and more. A great selection of her work has also been performed by members of the Queensland Conservatorium Orchestra in many concerts, some of which she and her fellow composers organised and coordinated themselves.
Christina founded Christy’s Keys as a part time business, tutoring piano, voice, theory and composition for students of all ages. Passionate about teaching, she enjoys seeing her students develop the same love for music as she.
Competitive sailing is a love that provides inspiration for many of her compositions as well as fun times on the water with family and friends.
I’ll put regular updates on new compositions and films I am working on, so stay tuned to have a look at some of my upcoming projects on the Compositions and In-Progress pages on this website!
